About
ABOUT MIDLIFE GAMER
Our main goal of this site is to offer a portal for all who are passionate aboute gaming, regardless of credentials. We want to deliver a place where your commentary about your passion can reach beyond a forum post, a platform to express yourself fully or just a place to share something that you’ve found interesting as a gamer on the internet.
ABOUT YOU
At Midlife Gamer, we believe in working with the community to create great content. Hell, you understand gaming just as much as we do…perhaps even more. So when you register with us and post a cool original story, if we like it, we’ll do our best to make sure people see it.
We want Midlife Gamer to be a place for great content creators to build a reputation and get noticed — by their peers, by us, and by the big world outside of Midlife Gamer. Which bring us to…
HOW MIDLIFE GAMER WORKS
First of all, whenever you post something to Midlife Gamer it gets submitted for moderation. We’ll editorially vet your post for quality control. We will always feed back to you if changes are required. This is important because the feedback process will help you to understand what we’re looking for, and will make future posts much easier to write. If we feel your stuff is top-notch material, we’ll promote it to the front page to sit alongside our own content.
Of course, all posts (from you or from us) won’t be suitable for front-page promotion. Don’t worry…they still have a place here. Think of Midlife Gamer as a blog network of sorts, so anyone can stop by and check out whatever it is you have to say.
So you can see why we want you to register with your real name and email address! It would sure suck if we (or some other organization) were to recognize your awesomeness and wanted to hire you for some freelance or full-time work, only to not be able to get a hold of the real you. We also hope that real names will make our users more accountable and less likely to recommend death by fire to those with differing opinions.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We’re looking for smart, funny, and insightful content that complements what we’re doing on Midlife Gamer. That’s about as guideline-y as we’re going to get.
If you’re reporting news that is already published on the internet, we’d like to read your own spin on the content, not a cut and paste of the article. The most important rule for reporting this type of content is ALWAYS LINK YOUR SOURCE. Somebody somewhere has worked hard to put their article together, and they deserve the credit that’s due to them.
For more information on how to add a link to your post, check out the How To… guide.
Spell check is your friend who really likes you, and we stop reading after the first “teh” or “lol” or lower-case letter used to start off a new sentence. Offensive or promotional stuff gets deleted.

ABOUT MATT & DAREN
Matt & I worked together for a time in 2005. We quicky discovered we shared a real passion for gaming. We’d spend hours trading past gaming experiences and entertaining each other with our gaming related stories. Events transpired and I ended up buying a house in the same town and at some point Matt left the company although we maintained contact long after Matt pursued his career elsewhere.
We kept in touch and got together once every so often and the conversation always returned to gaming. In spring 2008 we started to talk about how we could take our common interest and do something interesting with it. The discussion turned to podcasting. We both listened to a wide range of gaming podcasts and would often discuss what we had heard. We agreed that while there was nothing really wrong with what we were listening to, we had an opportunity to do something a little different ourselves. For this reason we started to plan and scope out the ways and means of recording our own podcast, just for kicks.
Our first recording centered around E3 2008. We really enjoyed recording that day despite not having a clue how it was going to turn out. We were really happy with the output at the time and immediately posted it to iTunes just to get it up there. We’ve since lost the original recording, and on reflection, that’s not a bad thing because in reality it wasn’t perfect by any stretch!
Nevertheless we got a taste for it and we vowed to continue.
On 28th July 2008 we posted the first regular episode ‘Lemon Party’. We’ve recorded a show every week since.
We continue to record and continue to learn. We’re not perfect, we don’t pretend to be. Some of our best material is born out of our mistakes. What we do is what feels right. If it doesn’t feel right we’ll change.
On 1st February 2010 we pressed the big button and launched the new look site. We’re very proud of it, it is nice!
